About Our Club
Created in 1980 as a small informal bushwalking club
our key objectives are
a) To promote and encourage bushwalking;
b) To foster social activity among members :
c) To develop exploring,
camping and bushwalking skills ;
d) To encourage a wider appreciation of the fauna and
flora and natural beauty of this country and
to assist in their conservation;
When do we Meet ?
Due to our Mediterranean climate (warm/hot dry summers and cool wet winters) the most suitable time for walking is during the late autumn, winter and spring months.
Hence our day walks are held every Sunday during the months of May to October.
During the warmer months of November to April our walks program consists of less frequent morning or half-day outings, bike rides, social events and weekends away.
Winter walks may vary in length from 10 to 20Kms depending on the terrain and nature of the course.
Some take place along the popular Bibbulmun track or other tracks where walking is generally at a good pace.
Weekend events may be camp-outs where we back-pack into bush reserves or national parks with tents or we may stay in community huts or budget accommodation such as YHA facilities.

BOWA's Current Program September - December 2008
Please read the notes at the end of the program for most of the requirements and rules for our walks.
Then contact the leader listed to discuss their event and meeting place.
In the interests of club safety we issue all new members with a 12 page Safety Procedure booklet to encourage awareness of some of the hazards which may be encountered on a walk and how to reduce or tackle these hazards should they occur.
Membership : Our club numbers about 55
Joining Bushwalkers of Western Australia requires completion of 3 full day club walks where the leader will sign an application form at the end of the walk. This same form has entries for all 3 walks which must be completed during the same year. The $5 non-members fee charged on full day walks becomes the joining fee ($15) at completion of the probationary walks.
Annual membership fees are : $25 single
$45 double
These fees help us :
- keep an up to date set of maps which any member is welcome to use for walks planning
- maintain our clubs membership of associate organisations such as the WA Federation of Bushwalkers
- provide a public liability insurance policy for our club
- sundry costs such as program copying and mailing
